SOW Spring 2010

Week 4 was Band development week. Band developement is a week of band practice specifically focusing on the 7 songs we´ve chosen to be on the CD. Every band member has atleast 1 song that they personally wrote, however this time allows all of the members to help collaborate & further develop them for recording! I was so proud to see them work together & create such beautiful music!

"The second teacher was Patrick Dodson, a man involved in
YWAM for 28 years. He´s from Monterey, California and has written a couple
books for young adults. His heart is to see the Creator´s creativity shown here
on earth through His creation. A lot of what he taught was on identity, the
life and lifestyle of the composer. I didn´t realize how mixed up identity can
become in this world until that week. Patrick spent a lot of time working with
us on a very personal level relating our pasts to who we are now and the Maker´s
original designs for us to the desires of our hearts. It was a very shaking,
yet comforting week. God confirmed a lot of things in my heart on who I am and
who I´d like to become, and also brought new thoughts and ideas to mind. My
future, I can securely and confidently say, is ever-changing and very
open-handed, and it´ll remain that way for the rest of my life." - Nicole Long

We have wasted no time jumping into things! Orientation week went great. We spent our time going over the school
curriculum, scheduling, and getting to know each other. Eyes got wide when we
realized our first song assignment was due in 1 week. But everyone rose to the
challenge, conquering fears, and did an amazing job writing & presenting
their first songs inspired by Psalm 102.
Week 1 of teaching we were privileged to have writer & producer Charles
Powell to share on songwriting. It was very different then I think most were
expecting. Assuming we´d get the "how-to´s" and "basic
formula´s" of writing, Charles shared much more. He taught the 5 W´s &
H (Who, What, Where, When & How) of writing. Teaching us that is has nothing
to do with our accomplishments, but how we need to write from our struggles,
and how that requires honesty. What an amazing way to start our journey
together!
