Cycle 5, Brazil Trip, Day 11, Sunday 5th August 2007

This morning, joined by the New York team and some local Ywamers the team went on a boat trip on the Madeira river. Some were fortunate enough to see the dolphins swimming. Lunch was traditional Brazilian 'Churrasco'. The waiters serve as much meat as you can fill, from chicken to chicken hearts. The side buffet is also 'all you can eat'. Served with Brazil's favourite drink Guaraná. This evening the team went to Filadélfia Baptist Church 'Igreja Batista Filadélfia'. About 250 people filled the church. Bill however was invited back to preach at the 'Igreja Do Porto' Church of the Port. The worship lasted one and a half hours with only three songs. Then with only 20 people Bill stepped forward to preach, as the room filled to 700 people.

Cycle 5, Brazil Trip, Day 10, Saturday 4th August 2007

The team rested this morning. After lunch Manuel the bus driver drove the New York, Pennsylvania, and some of the Ywam Porto Velho team to town. Traditional Brazilian hammocks and Havaianas flip-flops were eagerly bought. The team were also introduced to a traditional Brazilian dish 'Açaí'. This evening the team joined the Ywam base in a typical country Hootenany party. It was an evening of much fun and laughter, of eating, dancing and trying to climb a greesed-up pole to reach a cash prize. However no one was able to conquer this challenge. Several of the girls from Ywam, Porto Velho's Projeto Marias 'Maria Project' were there also.

Cycle 5, Brazil Trip, Day 6, 31th July 2007

Today the team worked at the Indian Hospitality House, a place run for native Indians. However living conditions were poor. Duties were split between the team, inluding clearing the trash, cleaning out the toilets and making the showers usable again. Bill was invited, along with Joe, Missy and Hannah to Ywam's evening DTS. In attendance there were about 10 students, with people listening from outside. After worship Bill preached for two and a half hours on prayer. Later this evening, about 10:30pm some of the Ywamers came to the team's house to wish April a Happy 19th Birthday. A chocolate and coconut sponge cake was also gratefully received.

Cycle 5, Brazil Trip, Day 8, 2nd August 2007

Day Three at the Indian Hospitality House. Joined by the New York team and Brazilian Ywamers the group totaled about 45 people. Finishing work included clearing the remaining leaves and trash, and digging a trench for water. The New York team performed a dance and gave a testimony. Then Fernando, the Cheif's Son thanked everyone for the work. A few other people from the tribe also thanked us and one gave testimony of faith in Jesus Christ. The tribe then danced and sung for us, and the Pennsylvania team responded with a few songs of worship. The bus was filled with singing all the way home as everyone was so happy. This evening Ywam Porto Velho had its weekly worship service. A multi-cultural service in Portuguese and English. About 150 to 200 people filled the room, of which about half were Ywamers.

Cycle 5, Brazil Trip, Day 7, 1st August 2007

Day Two at the Indian Hospitality House. A Government Indian Agency. Today the team met Fernando, the Cheif's Son. Work included cleaning and washing, and painting the outside of the main living area. Rubens was very pleased that the team had finished three days work in two. So he told the team that tomorrow would be a day for ministry. This is an opportunity Ywam Porto Velho did not expect. Adam Zimont went bee hive chasing and fruit picking this afternoon with the kids on the base. He quoted "I felt like a kid again". This evening a team of 17 from Long Island, New York arrived on the base. Another two chocolate Birthday cakes were made for April. After dinner everyone sang Happy Birthday, First in English and then in Portuguese. Later this evening a few of the team went fishing on the Madeira River 'Rio Madeira'. Two Catfish were caught.

Cycle 5, Brazil Trip, Day 5, 30th July 2007

Today the team had a full morning evangelizing in the town. Clowns ,led by the team's missions host Rubens drew the crowds. About 40 people gathered as the dances and dramas were performed and two testimony's were given. Bill gave a short message and invitation to receive Christ. Six people were prayed for wanting to know more about Christ. The team then headed to the bus terminal to continue evangelizing. The same order was followed, except Edlene (from the Ywam base) brought the gospel message. About 50 people in total gathered and eight were prayed for to receive Christ. After a quick bite to eat the team headed back to the base. The rest of the day consisted of much needed chores such as washing and cleaning, and team time. The team are making a great impression, trying hard to learn the Portuguese language and communicate with the locals. Unfortunately the team received news today that Lauren did not receive her visa. Therefore she will be staying in Florida with Sandy for the remainder of the trip.

Cycle 5, Brazil Trip, Day 2, 27th July 2007

This morning the team took a flight from Manaus to Porto Velho, Brazil - the destination of the next 11 days of mission. Jodi Bunn welcomed the team's arrival, and they set off for YWAM 'Jocum' Porto Velho. The surroundings became apparently different from Manaus, as Porto Velho is deeper into the rainforest of the Amazon. After arriving and settling at the Ywam base, and after an appetising lunch Jodi briefed the team for the schedule ahead. After an adventurous afternoon involving tarantulas, eating wild fruit and a game of soccer dinner was served. This meal was topped off with much laughter dancing and playing games with the teams new found Brazilian friends, Vagner and Rafael. Team time this evening was lively and Amanda, who had an ear ache after the flights was healed.

Update from Costa Rica

The team from CFAN (Church For All Nations) has had a busy few days. On Sunday the 29th, the team took part in a local church service doing dramas, testimonies, and childrens ministry. The CFAN team helped the kids make some arts and craft projects. While at the same time telling them some bible stories. It was a great time for everyone. Later Sunday night, the team was invited to go to a local church. It was a nice break from ministry and it was pleasant just to sit through the service. After the service the whole team went to a local mall with some of our new friends to have dinner. Monday the 30th was a day for working. CFAN was invited to help out a local church with some work projects. The church wanted a flat space for a basketball court. This meant that the team had to carry rocks and gravel from the river to make the spot flat. It was a long, hard trip. Buckets were the only thing that the team was able to find to use. But no matter how hard the work was, not a single complaint was heard from the team. Everyone had a great attitude and enjoyed the work, even though it was very demanding. Today (July 31) is our last day of ministry. Pray that everything goes well.

Cycle 5: Virginia Team Evangelizes in Youth Center and Door-to-door in Tampa

Today the team drove to Tampa, FL where they helped out with the All Nations Church's ministry. They performed their dramas, and Maddie, Lexie and Tommy Corcoran gave their testimonies for about 46 children at the George A. Bartholomew North Tampa Community Center. After spending time talking and playing with the children on the playground, the team went flyering door-to-door in the neighborhood surrounding All Nations Church. They handed out fliers about the church's service and ministry schedules, prayed with and evangelized to about 170 people total.  Praise God for one woman, Betsy, who accepted Christ today through door-to-door evangelism!

Cycle 5: Virginia Team Ministers to Single Mother and Evangelizes in Trilby, FL

Yesterday the team led an evangelistic outreach barbecue with families in the Trilby Baptist Church (TBC) neighborhood. They ministered to both adults and children through soccer, football, frisbee, playing in a rented moonbounce, face painting, conversation and prayer. The team also led a program that consisted of worship, dramas and testimonies from Bridget, Grant and Kelly. About 23 people came to the barbecue and praise God for the 4 youth who accepted Christ for the first time last night. In addition, that morning the team performed one of their dramas for the TBC community. Maddie and Mariam also shared their testimonies with the congregation. On Saturday, the team helped fix up the house of a TBC church member. The house was in extreme disrepair with mold, spider, and cockroach infestations, missing flooring and garbage/clutter piles--some of which had not been cleaned in years. The owner is a 35-year-old single mother of 2 young daughters, whose life has been plagued by tragedies of divorce and family deaths since her early 20s. The team dove right in to work, scrubbing mold-infested surfaces, clearing out numerous bags of trash to bring to the dump, sweeping up piles of dirt and roaches and fixing up the lawn. They diligently worked on this ministry for a few hours in the morning and afternoon/evening.

For ministry today the team joined with the Discipleship Training School (DTS) from the base. They were briefed by Rubens for their day at the 'Vila Princessa' Dump Community. After a broken down private bus, walking to the nearest bus stop was the only option. The group totaled 32. Lunch was served at 'Vila Princessa', then ministry began. From the team Donnie, Amanda and Stef stayed behind and played games with the kids. Whilst the rest of the group broke into groups of three to go visit and pray with families from the neighborhood. The team performed their clowns skit and dance. Joe and Adam Zimont gave their testimony's. Then Vagner, from the DTS gave a gospel presentation. About 20 children came forward for prayer and to receive Jesus. For the rest of the evening the team had free time. Everyone is well in health and strong in faith.

Cycle 5, Brazil Trip, Day 3, 28th July 2007

This morning the team led the youth of YWAM Porto Velho. 12 youth between the age of 12 and 15 years attended. Stef brought a word on 1 Timothy 4:12 about being a young leader. She also perfectly addressed the issue of gossip. After another tasty meal the team relaxed for the afternoon and went swimming with the youth. Before dinner the team joined the local YWAMers for worship and prayer on the slip of the river Madeira 'wood'. This evening Reinaldo and Braulia Ribeiro, the base Directors took the team to a youth service at Igreja Do Porto (Church of the Port). The team were also able to perform their dance and drama, and testimonies were shared by Adam Ortlieb and Donnie. The church's youth Pastor Anderson told us at least 50 youth attended.

Safe in Costa Rica

The team from Church For All Nations arrived yesterday in Costa Rica after a crazy day of traveling. The group had to deal with many delays and one of the staff missing their luggage (ahem, Jamie). But everyone went with the flow of things and made the best of the situation. Today the team traveled to a local orphanage to present their dramas and to hang out with the kids. It was a great time for all. Many on the team wanted to stay. And many of the kids wanted to go with us. Earlier today, everyone went on a prayer walk around town. A rain filled walk around town. It was an awesome time!

Cycle Two: The Force is back in Orlando for week two of their outreach!

The Force team was welcomed back Saturday night from a week long outreach in New Orleans.  They were excited to be back here in Orlando with us and they had an amazing time ministering in New Orleans.

Saturday night the Force ministered to people in the downtown area of Orlando where two people committed their lives to Christ.

Sunday, the team went to church at Master's Touch then performed their dramas at a neighborhood cookout.

The Force worked hard on Monday to fix up someone's home in the Parramore area of Orlando.  They scraped off old paint, painted with new brighter colors, and also washed a dog.

Today the team travelled with the Orlando staff to the Titanic exhibit here in Orlando.  We were all given the opportunity to walk through the exhibit and pray for blessings over it.

Be sure to checkout all the photos from this weekend and also from New Orleans by clicking on the flickr link below

Cycle 1: Team Ministers to Indigenous Panamanian Village

The team returned today from the village of San Juan de Pequeni after a 2 hour canoe ride.  They spent a day and a half at San Juan ministering to the people through dance, drama, testimonies and a children's ministry with balloon animals.  Ben, Lee and Ethan shared their testimonies with the nationals.  The team put on two ministry programs; each program had an audience of about 40 people.  At the closing of the first program, 4 people requested prayer for their families.

Part of the team traveled to a neighboring village to perform a similar program, but were caught in a heavy rainstorm on the way.  They continued their ministry, however, through playing soccer with the local children.

Cycle 1: Team Sent Off Thursday Night After Training and First Ministry Outreach

The Cityview and Trinity Episcopal Church teams were sent off tonight in prayer after having a time of worship and prayer over the major strongholds in Panama. After the Trinity team arrived Tuesday evening, they witnessed a passion play. The teams spent Wednesday undergoing creative arts training (dramas and dances), evangelism training and interceding for the water crisis in Africa. That night the students participated in a commitment ceremony in which they spent time alone with God in worship and were individually lifted up in prayer by staff members and leaders. Today the students had their first outreach ministry experience at Old Town--a tourist attraction in Orlando. Meredith, Sarah, Corey and Nick shared their testimonies with the crowd and each of the drama and dance teams performed their pieces.

Cycle 1: Cityview Arrives and Participates in Team Building

The Cityview Team from Pennsylvania arrived at the base safely yesterday afternoon. They were greeted by swarms of YWAM staff and interns eager to meet them. The students were exhausted from their trip but still had enough energy to play some ice breaker games and participate in the opening worship session.

Today the students worked together in a few team building exercises including a trust fall. It was definitely a stretch physically, emotionally, and spiritually for them. They surpassed the obstacles of frustration, fear and Florida heat to employ cooperation, communication, listening and trust. The YWAM staff and Cityview team are particularly proud of Hope; she overcame a huge fear of heights to fall from a five-and-a-half foot platform into nine of her team members' arms.
