DISCIPLESHIP TRAINING SCHOOL (DTS)

  

PREREQUISITE: Participants must be over the age of 18.

  

COURSE DESCRIPTION 

Course Number: DSP 211
The Discipleship Training School was developed by Youth With a Mission International over 40 years ago to fast track you into the mission field. This unique 5 month training experience contains two parts; a Lecture Phase and an Outreach Phase.

Your DTS begins with 3 months of training at YWAM Orlando’s training campus. Each week an experienced Missionary Professor teaches a different topic such as: Hearing the Voice of God, the Father Heart of God, Intimacy with Christ and Spiritual Warfare. Your week is also saturated with one-on-one time with God, worship, prayer, small groups, intercession for the Nations and spending time with the YWAM Orlando community.

The last two months of the DTS, your YWAM Orlando DTS staff take you on a cross-cultural  outreach that will change your life and those you minister to! For two months you get to put into practice what you learned in lecture phase and you can expect God to use you in incredible ways to reach the lost! You will share the Gospel through one on one evangelism, experience the power of prayer, develop your ability to hear the voice of God, and gain a heart for the Unreached!

LECTURE PHASE COST 

$3,290.00* USD for the twelve-week lecture phase. This cost includes tuition, food, and housing and resources. There is an additional cost for conferences, outreach, airfare, personal care, laundry money, extra activities and personal snacks. Please keep in mind that the tuition and outreach costs for the Discipleship Training School are not tax-deductible.

OUTREACH COST

$1,850.00 USD. This school’s outreach is approximately 2 months. There are a variety of locations that the school may go to. Check out our outreach page to see where we've been! Explore some of our target locations and read about our 20/20 Vision!

INTEREST TRACKS

YWAM Orlando also offers Interest Track options for your DTS. These Interest Tracks seek to equip students with training, practical skills, and a biblical foundation to be most effective within their area of interests. If you have a passion that lines up with one of our Interest Tracks, it might just be your place to turn a passion into action.

These Interest Tracks are not “better” or “less than” a classic DTS - you'll get a full DTS experience in any one of them. In most cases, your daily schedule will be longer to not only cover the classic DTS teaching, but also training in the focused area. Your outreach will also be tailored to work within your focus area.

Justice Track

“Learn to do good; seek justice, correct oppression; bring justice to the fatherless, plead the widow’s cause.” (Is 1:17)

 

The DTS Justice Track will give you an opportunity to combat these issues through learning about the holistic Gospel in; class, prayer, projects, local and overseas outreach’s focused on areas of injustice. YWAM Orlando seeks to do justly in areas of hunger, clean water, human trafficking, health, equality, poverty and children at risk.

Photography Track

Learn to use photography to further God’s kingdom! Our goal as photographers is to not only capture stories, but to capture them with a kingdom perspective. There is hope and beauty in every situation, even within the real-life injustices happening in our world everyday. Your involvement with the subject of your photo should not simply be the push of a button, but it should become a birthing moment of prayer and intercession.


Assignments and teachings for the photography DTS students will include afternoon class several times a week; for example some photography basics (exposure, aperture, shutter, composition), story-telling/photojournalism basics, weekly photo assignments, and creative journaling.


Requirements: Bringing your own Digitial SLR camera (Nikon or Canon preferrably)with standard zoom lens, camera bag, battery charger, extra battery, memory cards. It is not required, but highly recommended to bring your own laptop (for editing and storing photos), and a couple other lenses (i.e. 50mm 1.8 or 1.4 would be a good place to start, or a telephoto 70-200mm). Sports and Fitness

You will also become a leader in emphasizing that as followers of Jesus we are triune beings in spirit, soul and body. This Interest Track focuses on serving people by helping them restore and maximize their vitality in the goal of ordaining their destinies and furthering the cause of Christ.

 

This Interest Track embraces and utilizes the medium of playing sports while engaging in physical conditioning as the overall theme in becoming a disciple of Jesus Christ. Students will have opportunities to participate in sports such as soccer, basketball, volleyball, and tennis. Students and staff will also participate in fitness conditioning activities such as power walking/hiking, bicycling, swimming, running, sprinting, and resistance training.

This DTS track models amulti-generational discipleship experience and is equipped for youth, families, retired people, singles, and couples, with or without kids.
