Three million poor Haitians are being affected by the recent earthquake. The news reports coming out of Haiti continues to show just how desperate the situation is. Terry Snow, YWAM Haiti’s National Director, is reporting that thousands of people are fleeing Port-au Prince and trying to find refuge in surrounding cities such as St Marc where he lives and works. In response to this they have set up feeding centers and shelters at various churches in St Marc and are rapidly running out of food, water and supplies.
Thousands of people are also fleeing Haiti and crossing the border into the Dominican Republic in hopes of getting medical treatment. Our Discipleship Training School Outreach Team is currently helping minister to some of these refugees in one of the Dominican Republic’s hospitals but the needs of the Haitians are still overwhelming.
YWAM Orlando has been asked to help organize the shipping of containers from Miami to the port in St Marc. And Terry has been asked to take in up to 6,000 refugees for up to 3 weeks at a time. There are many needs but the most urgent are: food, water and supplies.
Haiti is the poorest country in the western hemisphere and lacks the resources inside the country to properly respond to this massive crisis. It will take many months before the situation fully stabilizes and our hope is that we will be able to continue providing funding for many containers of food and water to help the Haitian people.
Please consider sending a gift of any size, which we will pool together with other gifts and help with needed supplies during the critical time of urgent need. I would also ask you to continue to pray for the nation and people of Haiti.
God bless,
Michael Berg
